Most Nigerians think it impossible to get a laptop still factory sealed as this is very rare and expensive in the computer market. Most people would actually prefer to go for used or otherwise known as second-hand laptops because this is what they could afford, even at that, they still are very expensive to an average person.
Itel may now be making dreams come true as Nigerians now have something that is going to be affordable to go with while being new instead of the conventional ‘tokunbo’ otherwise known as ‘London used’.
Itel in its online launch last week introduced the Able 1, its first laptop alongside other new market target electronics other than smartphones like earbuds and TV.
The company known for its well strategized low-price campaign, has successfully brought a lot of low income earning Nigerians to the smartphone world. An Itel smartphone could be bought at a price of NGN17,000 which represents about 57% of the minimum monthly wage in Nigeria.
The laptop would be power backed up by a 3000mah battery which sounds like a less norm for smartphone battery capacity. Nevertheless, it is surprising that Itel has refused to give explicit details as to the processing capacity of the laptop raising eyebrows amongst the younger population who often look out for such details while making decisions such as this.
Another catchy detail provided is with its storage capacity which would make up to 1TB. This in itself could entice a lot of people who are always after making their laptops a storage backup. It is not uncommon to find people transferring movies, music, pictures and documents formerly stored on their smartphones onto their laptops. This would afford them some more space as the toks hardly come with a 500gb storage. No thanks to the ‘engineers’ who also replace the storage with that of a lower capacity so as to make some money off them.
The price tag wasn’t announced at the launch which suggests some kind of development is still ongoing with the laptops before they would be open to sales.
