A man in Germany has recently had to part ways with his 10 BTC to a verified Twitter account scam.

On February 22, Elon Musk tweeted “Dojo 4 Doge”, an expression that shows his enthusiasm for one of the barely known crypto at the time. This tweet had brought the Dogecoin into limelight once again and caused it’s acceptance and valuation to soar.

However, the victim while scrolling through the tweet replies came across another tweet from a verified account that allegedly had ‘Elon musk’ as its name but not the user name. The clone verified account had replied to the original Elon Musk tweet inviting people to transfer some cryptos ranging from 0.1 BTC to 10 BTC (for the Bitcoin option) after which Elon Musk would double whatever was transferred in exchange back to the person.

The victim thought it must be true since it was from a verified account. The website page also had a time counting which tells you how fast the returns would come. He sent 10 BTC to the wallet and waited until the time machine was done counting and nothing ever came back.

On discovering he’s been scammed, he told BBC “I threw my head on to the sofa cushions and my heart was beating so hard. I thought I’d just thrown away the gamechanger for my family, my early retirement fund and all the upcoming holidays with my kids.”
