Google, sometimes last year made known a rule that would enable it delete files of accounts that have been inactive for at least the past 2 years. That rule commences yesterday being the 1st of June, 2021 as postulated in its announcement.
This is a sign of growth in Google features user as there’s too much to store on its server than allowing it’s storage stacks lay redundant with unneeded and unused data.
Wait! No need for panic yet as actually deletion doesn’t start until 1st June, 2023 which is 2 years from now.
Accounts that would be affected also includes those who’s overshot their drive capacity and without an active subscription to cover for them.
In Google’s own words, “If you’re inactive for 2 years (24 months) in Gmail, Drive or Photos, we may delete the content in the product(s) in which you’re inactive. If you exceed your storage limit for 2 years, we may delete your content across Gmail, Drive and Photos,”
I’n order not to be affected, you would have to make your account seem active to Google if it’s been over 2 years since you last logged in. While for people who has used up more space than the 15gb allocated, there’ll be the need to subscribe to one Google’s drive space offer starting from NGN390 per month for 100gb to NGN1990 for 2TB space.
