Aptera, a company that launched in 2006 to produce the first set of solar charged electric vehicles on a three-wheel is making a come-back with some bold realities.
The company have had to close down in 2011 after going through a series of financial issues. Infact, it has had big companies like Idealab and Google invest in its idea before this eventual packup which led to its asset being auctioned and majorly shipped to china by a Chinese company. The company made a comeback in 2019 after its original founders Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony reanimated it.
The three-wheeler vehicle would have a shape that produces extremely low amounts of aerodynamic drag while maintaining a futuristic look. It would be covered in more than three square meters of highly efficient photovoltaic cells to collect solar energy while being stored in a 100kWh battery pack which is expected to last as much as 45 miles per day just on solar charge.
Its solar charging build would be so dependable at such an average user may not need to worry about getting it plugged in grid power to charge even though a means of doing that would be included on the vehicle. One would think having to make all this a reality insinuates that luxuries shouldn’t be expected in any way in the vehicle. However, the vehicle is expected to have air conditioning while also a moderate sized touchscreen is placed on the dashboard just like in Teslas for suitability purposes.
It is not known when exactly these EVs are expected to hit the market but it is known that the company Is currently seeking funding to further develop and bring this to the production lines. The vehicle on launching is expected to have a price within the range of $26,000 to $50,000.
